A post-Impressionist who powerfully influenced modern Expressionism, Fauvism and early abstraction, Van Gogh?ˉs turbulent life was fraught with unrequited love, disappointing friendships, and depression. The most difficult years of his life, when he was convalescing in Saint-Remy, was his most productive as an artist yielding 150 of his most extraordinary works, which drew critical acclaim during exhibitions from that period.
