A post-Impressionist artist who powerfully influenced modern Expressionism, Fauvism and early abstraction, Van Gogh was a prolific artist who produced all of his work during a 10-year period?aat one point, creating an astounding 150 paintings and drawings within one year. Now an icon, he only sold one painting in his lifetime. ?°Starry Night,?± his most famous piece, was created completely from memory while Van Gogh was institutionalized and currently hangs in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
